We imaged an area of 3×3 mm centered on the macula using the SPECTRALIS® OCT Angiography Module. The CC vascular density was calculated using three image processing methods:Otsu method, Phansalkar method, and Multiscale Hessian enhancement (MHE)-Otsu method, using images 20-49 µm from the subretinal pigment epithelium. Continuous variables were compared using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Associations of CC vascular density and axial length were analyzed by Pearson correlation. Results:The mean CC vascular density of 91 eyes was 39.45±3.33% for the Otsu method, 43.89±7.29% for the Phansalkar method, and 54.34±2.01% for the MHE-Otsu method. A one-way ANOVA in the mean CC vascular density for each imaging method showed a significant differences (F 〈2,270〉=211.5, p<0.001). The correlation between CC vascular density and age was statistically significant differences (all p<0.001) as follows:Otsu method r=−0.66;Phansalkar method r=−0.66;MHE-Otsu method r=−0.64. The correlation between CC vascular density and axial length was significantly differences for the Otsu method, r=0.22, p=0.043, but not for the Phansalkar method, r=0.18, p=0.091, and for the MHE-Otsu method, r=0.19, p=0.068. There was no significant correlation between age and axial length (r=0.098, p>0.35). Conclusions:CC vascular density in normal eyes decreased with age.
